Mural Arts and the Philadelphia Museum of Art are proud to produce the first permanent mural piece from the artist Njideka Akunyili Crosby. Akunyil Crosby is internationally recognized for her methodically layered compositions that combine painted depictions of people, places, and subjects from her life with photographic transfers derived from her personal image archive as well as Nigerian magazines and other mass media sources. The resulting works are visual tapestries that vivify the personal and social dimensions of contemporary life while evocatively expressing the intricacies of African diasporic identity.

Situating this reproduction of Akunyili Crosby's "The Beautyful Ones" Series #1c in the heart of Philly's Africatown area serves as a celebration of the city's rich immigrant communities.
